PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

ALLOCATION OF CPD POINTS:

General CPD points will be awarded for content and/or contact (notional) hours and will not be awarded for activities such as lunch and tea. If the activity contains a section on ethics, please include the following documentation:

  • The presentation / outline of the presentation
  • CV of the presenter/s – please show the specific expertise of the presenter/s in the field of ethics
  • Exact date, time and venue

CPD activities on Ethics, Human Rights and Medical Law must focus on issues of patient care which can include topics concerning the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice and human dignity. Medical Law activities should focus on the responsibilities of professionals and the rights of patients. Presentations with a so-called ethics “component,” that only form a part of a presentation/discussion on ethics do not qualify for ethical continuing education units (CEUs). Only presentations focusing specifically on Ethics, Human Rights or Medical Law will be allocated CEUs. Ethics CEUs are allocated in a ratio of 2 units per notional hour, and should stay within a ratio of 5 points to every 30 CEUs when in a wider programme.

DISCLAIMER:

  • Presenters of CPD activities are advised to put a disclaimer of liability on their application forms/promotional and workshop material.
  • The attainment of continuing education units (CEUs) does not license any health professional to practice outside their scope of practice. CEUs are intended to broaden the existing knowledge of health professionals, and do not constitute professional training.

COMMITTEE MEETING DATES

The committee responsible for the accreditation of CPD activities and service providers meet on the first and last Monday of the month. Please submit applications well in advance (at least two months prior to your activity) as all applications will have to wait in line in the order in which they are received.
