Dr Alida Sandison is a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Psychology and has worked in academia for more than 20 years. Her niche and research interests are in the areas of personality and the development of psychopathology. She is mainly focused on how personality development is influenced, and what can be learnt in the detailed exploration of lived lives. She has particular expertise in understanding the unfolding of Narcissistic and Antisocial personalities. In terms of research methodologies, she specialises in Psychobiographical and Case Study research.

Alida enjoys research supervision and has successfully supervised 32 Master’s students. She is currently supervising various Honour’s, Master’s and Doctoral students.

Alida is a registered Counselling Psychologist. Her teaching focus area is Psychodynamic therapy and Personality Development and Assessment, which she facilitates in the undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology programmes. Alida uses interactive teaching approaches with the aim of engaging with depth material in a way that makes concepts accessible and applicable to understanding others, particularly in therapeutic environments.
